This Tom Ford ad has been censored by Italy's Institute for Advertising Self-Discipline (IAP). Do you think this ad is vulgar? Do you feel offended?
Tom Ford is well known for this kind of ads but sex sells and that's no news! Much ado about nothing I would say.

Diese Werbekampagne von Tom Ford wurde vom italienische Institut für Werbung und Selbstdisziplin (keine Ahnung, wie die korrekte deutsche Bezeichnung lautet) zensiert. Findet ihr diese Werbung vulgär? Fühlt ihr euch dadurch angegriffen?
Tom Ford ist für dererlei Kampagnen bekannt und das Sex sells wissen wir nicht erst seit heute! Viel Lärm um nichts würde ich sagen.

Maaany pics this time but I must show them all to you because I like them a lot and hope you might, too. Those artsy ones with splashes of colour everywhere are very beautiful ( the model's hairstyle!!!) and remind me of Pollock's work. Action painting!!

PICTURING YOUTH

Yesterday, I came across an article about two photographers. Their pics are concerned with the same subject: youth. But the ways in which both try to express this topic are highly contradictory. The kids in Larry Clark's (65 years old) photos (who did films like "Kids" and "Ken Park") are mostly drug addicts, living in bad social circumstances (e.g. ghettos). Seperation and provocation are commanding here. The younger Ryan McGinley (30 years old) shows us naked teenagers in paradisiac surroundings full of joy. Which approach is more appealing to you? Why? Maybe the difference in age between those photographers is one reason for their diffenerent ways of dealing with the same subject?


Vor kurzem stieß ich auf einen Artikel über 2 Fotografen, deren Bilder sich dem selben THema widmen: Jugend. Interessant ist, wie unterschieldich das Thema von beiden behandelt und dargestellt wird. Larry Clark (65, hat auch Filme wie "Kids" und "Ken Park" gemacht) zeigt uns vorwiegend Jugendliche, die sich gerade einen Schuß setzen, im Dreck leben. Die Bilder drücken Einsamkeit und Provokation aus. Auf den Fotos von Ryan McGinley (30) sehen wir hingegen nackte übermütige Teenager, die durch paradiesisch anmutende Szenen hüpfen. Welcher Ansatz spricht euch stärker an und warum? Einer der Gründe, warum die Ansätze beider Fotografen so stark voneinander abweichen liegt sicherlich in deren Altersunterschied.

LILLIAN BASSMAN

Lillian Bassman was born in 1917 in New York City and is one of few female fashion photographers. She is famous for her black and white photos which she manipulated in the darkroom by blurring and bleaching them. Bassman worked for Harper's Bazaar in the 40s - 60s and was friends with Richard Avedon. During the 70s, she gave up her career as fashion photographer (due to changing ideals in the industry which clashed with her own beliefs) and became a painter.

Lillian Bassman wurde 1917 in New York City geboren und ist eine der wenigen weiblichen Modefotografen. Sie bearbeitete ihre berühmten schwarz-weiß Fotos in der Dunkelkammer um verschwommene, unklare Effekte zu erzielen. Von den 40ern bis in die 60er Jahre hinein arbeitete sie für Harper's Bazaar und war zudem mit Richard Avedon befreundet. In den 70ern gab sie ihre Karriere als Fotografin auf, weil sich die verändernden Ideale der Modeindustrie nicht mehr mit ihren eigenen deckten, und wurde Malerin.

FASHION: IMAGES

Sorry for the lack of postings but I was quite busy during the last few days.
Yesterday, I went to the "Mode: Bilder" (Fashion: Images) exhibition in Dusseldorf but wasn't allowed to take pics. So I show you some pics of the brochure instead.
370 photographies are displayed in Dusseldorf, of which some date back to the 19th century while others are only a few years old. The exhibition features many famous photographers such as Richard Avedon, Guy Bourdin, David LaChapelle, William Klein and so on and establishs a different approach on fashion photography. The photos were taken from F.C. Gundlach's (a photographer himself) collection who describes fashion as an essential part of human life. Gundlach is convinced that every photo which shows a person's posture, gesture, clothing is fashion photography.


Leider bin ich in den letzten Tagen nicht zum bloggen gekommen.
Gestern besuchte ich die "Mode: Bilder"-Ausstellung in Düsseldorf aber durfte dort keine Fotos machen und deshalb zeige ich euch nur ein paar Bilder aus der Brochüre. Die Ausstellung besteht aus ungefähr 370 Fotografien von denen einige bereits im 19. Jahrhundert entstanden, während andere erst wenige Jahre alt sind. Berühmte Fotografen wie Richard Avedon, Guy Bourdin, David LaChapelle, William Klein etc. sind dort vertreten und Mode: Bilder schafft eine neue Sicht auf Modefotografie. Die Bilder stammen aus der Sammlung des Fotografen F.C. Gundlach. Für ihn ist Mode ein zentraler Bestandteil des menschlichen Lebens und dies wird in Modefotos sichtbar. Gundlach bezeichnet zudem alle Aufnahmen, auf denen die Haltung, Gestik, Kleidung von Menschen angebildet ist als Modefotografie.
