FASHION IN FILM FESTIVAL

If you are in London between 10 - 31 May 2008 you should visit the 2nd "Fashion in Film Festival"! Its theme "If Looks Could Kill: Cinema’s Images of Fashion, Crime and Violence” analyses the relationship between fashion, cinema, crime and violence. The festival conteins movie-screenings at the Tate Modern and talks at the Institue of Contemporary Art.
Anne Smith, Dean of Fashion and Textiles, Central Saint Martins: '... The role of fashion, costume and styling in films spanning a hundred years reveals the special position that fashion holds in locating the drama of life, society and the human experience.'

Falls jemand von euch zwischen dem 10. - 31. Mai 2008 in London sein sollte: Besucht das zweite "Fashion in Film Festival"! Das Thema lautet "If Looks Could Kill: Cinema's Images of Fashion, Crime and Violence" und dementsprechend wird die Beziehung zwischen Mode, Kino, Verbrechen und Gewalt beleuchtet. Das Festival beinhaltet Filmvorführungen in der Tate Modern sowie Vorträge und Diskussionen im Institut für zeitgenössische Kunst. Anne Smith, die Dekanin für Mode und Textilien am Central Saint Martins erklärt dazu: "... I think its beautiful and strange at the same time!
But I like the idea of showing clothes and accessories in an animated film...the scene where the bugs turn into shoes is my favorite!

Ich finde ihn schön und befremdlich zugleich! Die Idee, Kleidung und Accessoires in Form eines animierten Films zu zeigen gefällt mir. Besonders die Szene, in der sich dir Käfer in Schuhe verwandeln, finde ich großartig!

PETER GREENAWAY

A few weeks ago, the innovation price for performing arts was given to the British filmmaker Peter Greenaway (who also works for theaters and operas and is a writer and artist) . He produced films like "The Belly of an Architect", "The Cook, the Thief, the wife and her Lover" (many costumes of this film were designed by Gaultier), "Prospero's Books" and many more. He always tries to integrate other art forms in his films like elements of opera in "The Cook, the Thief, the wife and her Lover".
The award ceremony took place in the Ludwig Forum Aachen and Peter Greenaway seemed to be very witty and he performed an interesting video show on 3 huge screens intermingled with loud music and spoken words.


Vor einigen Wochen wurde der Aachener Innovationspreis für darstellende Kunst an den britischen Filmemacher Peter Greenaway (der auch als Künstler, Ausstellungsmacher, Theater- und Opernregisseur tätig ist) verliehen. Er produzierte Filme wie "Der Bauch des Architekten", "Der Koch, der Dieb, seine Frau und Ihr Liebhaber" (viele Kostüme dieses Films wurden von Gaultier entworfen), "Prosperos Bücher" und viele mehr. Er versucht stets, andere Kusntformen in seine Filme zu integrieren. So erinnert ""Der Koch, der Dieb, seine Frau und Ihr Liebhaber" zum Beispiel zeitweise an eine Operninszenierung. Die Preisverleihung fand im Ludwig Forum Aachen statt und Peter Greenaway wirkte auf mich sehr schlagfertig. Er wurde im Laufe des Abends als VJ aktiv und zeigte eine interessante Videoshow auf 3 überdimensional großen Leinwänden, welche mit Musik und Worten unterlegt war.

ELIZABETH - THE GOLDEN AGE

For all fans of historical costume films, the second movie about Elizabeth I. directed by Shekhar Kapur is surely a "must see"! I'm filled with pleasant anticipation and can't wait till Dec 20th when the movie will be released in Germany.
In my opinion, Cate Blanchett is the perfect cast for playing the chief character. I have to watch the first part again just to get in the right mood.
I'll write a few lines about fashion in the Elizabethan era soon but I've not much time at the moment so I'm sorry for lack of posts and dull topics.


Für Fans historischer Kostümfilme ist der zweite Film über Elisabeth I. von Shekhar Kapur mit Sicherheit ein Muss! Mich hat die Vorfreude gepackt und ich zähle die Tage bis zum 20.12. wenn der Film in die deutschen Kinos kommt.
Meiner Meinung nach ist Cate Blanchett die perfekte Besetzung für die Titelrolle. Ich muss umbedingt nochmal den 1. Film schauen, um mich seelisch auf den 2. Teil einzustimmen.
Bald werden ein paar Zeilen zum Thema Mode im elisabethanischen Zeitalter folgen, aber im Moment habe ich nicht so viel Zeit und bin selten zu Hause. Also entschuldigt bitte den Mangel an interessanten Posts.

CONTROL

A few days ago, one of my friends sent me a link of the trailer (http://momentum.control.substance001.com/Main.html) for the film "Control" by Anton Corbijn (thanks a lot, Aline!).
The film is a biography of Ian Curtis who was the leader of the post-punk and Dark Wave band "Joy Devision". Curtis totally lost control of his life and committed suicide at the age of 23. After Curtis death, "New Order" was founded by the other members of the band.
Anton Corbijn, the director of the film, is a photographer and "Control" is his first full length movie. In addition, Corbijn produced music videos for bands like Nirvana, U2 etc. "Control" was shown at the Cannes Film Festival this year and won several prices in categories like "Best European Film".
"Control" will start theatres across Germany Jan 10th 2008.
