The Italian fashion designer Roberto Capucci was born 1929 in Rome and is well known for his sculpted dresses. Some of his creations (even some never-shown-before pieces) are shown in the Roberto Capucci Foundation Museum in Florence till Feb 27th 2008.


Der italienische Modedesigner Roberto Capucci wurde 1929 in Rom geboren und ist die ausgeprägten Formen seiner Stücke bekannt. Einige seiner Kreationen (darunter sogar einige Stücke, die bisher noch nie gezeigt wurden) sind noch bis zum 27. Februar 2008 im Roberto Capucci Foundation Museum in Florenz ausgestellt.

Richard Phillips is an American painter, who is known for his large portraits copied from fashion magazines of the 60s and 70s. Fashion models are often subjects of his works with which he wants to demonstrate every pictures' artificiality.


Der amerikanischer Künstler Richard Phillips ist für großformatigen Bilder bekannt, die sich stark an den Illustrationen von Modemagazinen der 60er und 70 er Jahre orientieren. Häufig sind Models Gegenstand seiner Werke. Damit will er auf die Künstlichkeit, die jeder Bildkreation anhaftet, aufmerksam machen.

Everyone who is in London at the moment or who will be there during the turn of the year should go to see "The World as a Stage" displayed at Tate Modern (which is worth a visit anyway) until Jan 1st.
"This is the first exhibition at Tate Modern to bring the realm of performance into dialogue with gallery-based work. FASHION AGAINST AIDS

Stars like The Cardigans, Rhianna, Timbaland, Jade Jagger etc. designed tank tops, t-shirts and sweatshirts for H&M's "Fashion Against Aids" program which is based on the ideas of the non-profit-organisation "Designers Against Aids". The clothes will be in stores in February and should cost between 9,90 € and 29,90 €. of which 25 % will be donated to HIV prevention. All pieces are made from organic cotton.


Musiker wie The Cardigans, Timbaland, Rhianna etc. designten Tanktops, T-Shirts und Sweatshirts für H&Ms "Fashion Against Aids"-Programm, welches auf eine Idee der Non-Profit-Organisation "Designers Against Aids" zurück geht. After Takashi Murakami, Louis Vuitton collaborates with the artist Richard Prince who created some funky accessories for Vuitton's Spring 2008 Ready-to-wear collection. I appreciate the increasing trend of artists working for fashion labels because thereby art becomes more involved in our everyday lifes.


Nach Takashi Murakami holt sich Louis Vuitton nun wiedermal einen Künstler ins Haus: Richard Prince entwarf originelle Accessoires für Vuittons Spring 2008 Ready-To-Wear Kollektion. Mir gefällt diese spartenübergreifende Zusammenarbeit zwischen Künstlern und Modelabels, weil auf diesem Wege die Kunst verstärkt Teil unseres Alltags wird.

HEAD PIECES AS WORKS OF ART

A few days ago I stumbled across an article about hat designer Irene Bussemaker. She was born in Eindhoven (Netherlands) which is only a few kilometres away from where I live, and studied Fashion Design at the Maastricht Art Academy. Afterwards, she served an apprenticeship by THE most famous hat designer of our times: Philip Tracey. Her extraordinary pieces are often displayed in museums and in England she was awarded with this year's "Hat Designer of the Year"-Award.


Vor einigen Tagen las ich einen Artikel über die Hutdesignerin Irene Bussemaker. Sie wurde in Eindhoven (Niederlande) geboren, was nur wenige Kilometer von meinem Wohnort entfernt liegt, und studierte Modedesign an der Kunstakademie in Maastricht. Anschließend ging sie bei Philip Tracey, dem wohl bekanntesten Hutdesigner unserer Zeit in die Lehre. Ihre außergewöhnlichen Modelle wurden bisher nur in Museen ausgestellt und dieses Jahr wurde sie in England zum "Hat Designer of the Year" gekürt.

In the 16th century, during the reign of Elizabeth I., the Sumptuary Laws dictated how to dress. Those laws were created to help maintaining the rigid class structure. Thus, certain colours, textiles and clothes were linked to specific ranks within society.
As you can see in the pics above, the dresses were very pompous, often contained ruffs and had a geometrical shape.
The Elizabethan concept of ideal beauty contained light hair, a snow white complexion (indication of the upper class) as well as red lips and cheeks.


Im 16. Jahrhundert, während der Herrschaft Elizabeths I., bestimmten die Gesetze über Luxusaufwendungen, wie man sich zu kleiden hatte. Diese Gesetze sollten die rigiden Klassenstrukturen der elizabethanischen Gesellschaft aufrechterhalten. Deshalb waren Farben, Stoffe und Kleidungsstücke mit der gesellschaftlichen Position eines Individuums verbunden.
Wie Ihr in den Bildern sehen könnt, waren die Kleider sehr aufwendig gestaltet, meistens mit einem großen Halskragen verziert und hatten eine geometrische Form.
Dem Schönheitsideal der damaligen Zeit entsprachen eine schneeweiße Hautfarbe (dies galt als Zeichen der Oberschicht), helles Haar, sowie rote Lippen und Wangen.

Due to the gorgeous colour combos (among other things), one of the most beautiful pre-fall 2008 collections was the one presented by Oscar de la Renta. The main focus lies on feminine wide-swinging skirts, pencil skirts and elegant wide-legged trousers.


Eine der schönsten Pre-Fall Kollektionen zeigte Oscar de la Renta, was unter anderem mit den tollen Farbkombinationen der Kreationen zusammenhing. Bei dieser Kollektion liegt der Schwerpunkt eindeutig auf weit schwingenden femininen Röcken, Bleistiftröcken und Hosen mit weitem Bein, die lässig-elegant wirken.

ART BASEL MIAMI BEACH 2007

The Art Basel Miami Beach, America's most important art show, opens today. It shows 20th and 21st century artworks from over 200 galleries and from 4 continents (the Americas, Asia, Europe and Africa). 2000 artists are represented and beside artworks, crossover events are shown from genres like music, film, design and architecture. Additionally, the exhibition includes a show called "In Fashion '07" which honors the best editorial shot (Steven Klein's shot of a Alexander Mc Queen dress).


Amerikas wichtigste Kunstveranstaltung, die Art Basel Miami Beach, wird heute eröffnet. Es werden Kunstwerke aus dem 20. und 21. Jahrhundert aus über 200 Gallerien und von 4 Kontinenten (Nord-, Mittel- und Südamerika, Asien, Europa und Afrika) zu sehen sein. 2000 Künstler sind in Miami vertreten und neben Kunstwerken werden auch Crossover Events aus den Bereichen Musik, Film, Design und Architektur stattfinden. Zudem beinhaltet die Art Basel Miami eine show mit dem Namen "In Fashion '07", welche das besten Editorial Foto auszeichnet (diesjähriger Sieger ist Steven Kleins Bild von einem Alexander McQueen Kleid).

ELIZABETH - THE GOLDEN AGE

For all fans of historical costume films, the second movie about Elizabeth I. directed by Shekhar Kapur is surely a "must see"! I'm filled with pleasant anticipation and can't wait till Dec 20th when the movie will be released in Germany.
In my opinion, Cate Blanchett is the perfect cast for playing the chief character. I have to watch the first part again just to get in the right mood.
I'll write a few lines about fashion in the Elizabethan era soon but I've not much time at the moment so I'm sorry for lack of posts and dull topics.


Für Fans historischer Kostümfilme ist der zweite Film über Elisabeth I. von Shekhar Kapur mit Sicherheit ein Muss! Mich hat die Vorfreude gepackt und ich zähle die Tage bis zum 20.12. wenn der Film in die deutschen Kinos kommt.
Meiner Meinung nach ist Cate Blanchett die perfekte Besetzung für die Titelrolle. Ich muss umbedingt nochmal den 1. Film schauen, um mich seelisch auf den 2. Teil einzustimmen.
Bald werden ein paar Zeilen zum Thema Mode im elisabethanischen Zeitalter folgen, aber im Moment habe ich nicht so viel Zeit und bin selten zu Hause. Also entschuldigt bitte den Mangel an interessanten Posts.

Last Saturday, Aline and I went to the Ludwig Forum (http://www.ludwigforum.de/) and we both loved the paintings of Hans Niehus. Unfortunately, I couldn't find much information about this artist on the internet. So all I can say is, that he is from the Netherlands and uses watercolours for his paintings. He often refers to other artists or famous people.


Letzten Samstag waren Aline und ich im Museum (http://www.ludwigforum.de/) und dabei begeisterten uns besonders die Bilder von Hans Niehus. Leider konnte ich kaum Informationen über Ihn im Netz finden. Er kommt aus den Niederlanden und zeichnet mit Aquarellfarben. Zudem enthalten viele seiner Werke Anspielungen auf andere Künstler oder bekannte Persönlichkeiten.
